The University of Agder (UiA) is young as a university (2007), but traces its roots back to 1839 as an educational institution. We are located in the southern part of Norway, with approximately 8700 students and 1000 employees. The university has locations on three campuses (Kristiansand, Grimstad and Arendal)
There are five faculties: Economics and Social Sciences, Humanities and Education, Engineering and Science, Health and Sport Sciences and Fine Arts, as well as a Teacher Education Unit. Thirteen centres have been established at the university. The Arendal and Grimstad campuses will merge onto a new campus in Grimstad in 2010.
UiA offers 9 PhD programmes, 20 master programmes and about 50 bachelor programmes. Shorter programmes are also available.
The department of Economics and Business Administration has 865 students and offers degrees at all three levels (Bachelors, Masters and PhD). We have MSc and PhD programmes in international management taught in English. The PhD programme focuses on management issues related to international activities of organisations - ranging from multinational corporations to non-profit organisations - and their interactions with foreign governments, customers, competitors, and partners. The research areas of our PhD students range from corporate governance, international HRM, business ethics, cross-cultural management, microfinance, knowledge management, internationalization processes of the firm to NGO management, to mention a few. All our PhD students are enrolled in the National Research School in Business Economics and Administration.
