Management Science

Management Science (MS) is the discipline of using mathematics and other analytical methods to improve business decisions. The scope and method of MS include among others decision analysis, mathematical modeling, probability and statistics, optimization, simulation, forecasting, game theory, project and cost management, management control, organizational design ‐ and contracting and incentive systems. The field covers a variety of business areas, such as logistics, supply chain management, production and inventory management, risk management, quality management and natural resource economics.

The specialisation will emphasise two main directions of large importance for Norway: Energy, Natural resources and Environmental economics and management (ENE) – and Business Planning and Control (BPC). Areas of research will encompass general topics in ENE and BPC as well as highly specialized topics such as market design in deregulated energy and natural resource markets, dynamic feedback rules in resource management (including pollution taxes and quotas), contract theory, evolutionary games ‐ and revenue and operations management models.
